This week in Fedora (2019w10)

There's something for everybody in this report. Bug fixes for elementary applications, packaging fixes for Pantheon desktop components, updated ruby packages, the latest version of Syncthing, etc. The "Pantheon Desktop" Change for fedora 30 also looks like it will make it (albeit with slightly reduced scope, compared to the initial proposal).

fedora updates

elementary packages

I was made aware that some issues with both the Switchboard Networking plug and the Wingpanel Network indicator, including issues when requiring user interaction for the activation of network connections (be it WiFi passwords or VPN credentials), were caused by a missing dependency on the network-manager-applet package. Updated packages are on their way to all current releases of fedora.

package version release changes
switchboard-plug-networking 2.1.4 3.fc31, 3.fc30, 2.fc29, 2.fc28 Add missing network-manager-applet dependency
wingpanel-indicator-network 2.2.2 3.fc31, 3.fc30, 2.fc29, 2.fc28 Add missing network-manager-applet dependency

I also updated the Session, Keyboard, and Sound indicators for Wingpanel to the latest versions, which were released this week. The Session indicator brings keyboard shortcut improvements, and the Sound indicator includes various fixes and improvements for responsiveness and appearance. All three updates bring updated translations for various languages.

package version release changes
wingpanel-indicator-session 2.2.3 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29 2.2.2 → 2.2.3
wingpanel-indicator-keyboard 2.1.2 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 2.1.1 → 2.1.2
wingpanel-indicator-sound 2.1.3 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 2.1.2 → 2.1.3

I updated the Switchboard Keyboard plug to the latest version as well - it features improved searchability, fixed keyboard navigation, and various other fixes and improvements.

package version release changes
switchboard-plug-keyboard 2.3.5 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 2.3.4 → 2.3.5

New versions of the Code and Calculator applications were released this week, and I pushed updated packages to fedora. The latest version of Code features fixes for opening new application windows and makes it possible to switch to another git branch in the folder browser.

package version release changes
elementary-code 3.1.0 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29 3.0.2 → 3.1.0
elementary-calculator 1.5.2 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 1.5.1 → 1.5.2

golang packages

It took two tries, but I updated the Syncthing package for fedora to the latest version. The first attempt resulted in a broken build because the upstream build script changed some behaviour that I didn't account for in the initial update. The second build should work as intended.

package version release changes
syncthing 1.1.0 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 1.0.1 → 1.1.0
syncthing 1.1.0 2.fc31, 2.fc30, 2.fc29, 2.fc28 fix build tags

ruby packages

I also updated the liquid ruby gem to the latest minor bug-fix release.

package version release changes
rubygem-liquid 4.0.2 1.fc31, 1.fc30, 1.fc29, 1.fc28 4.0.1 → 4.0.2

COPR updates

The latest update to the quilter markdown editor contains some fixes, which apparently should make sure that opening files never fails.

package version release changes
quilter 1.7.5 1 1.7.4 → 1.7.5
